Lake County is located north of the San Francisco Bay region in California. This county was named for Clear Lake, which is the distinguishing feature of the county. Clear Lake is the largest naturally formed lake that is entirely in California. Lake Tahoe, for example, exists in both California and Nevada and therefore does not hold this designation. The county was made in the year 1861 by combining parts of Mendocino and Napa. Known as a farm community, Lake County is known for its pear and walnut farms. Pontoon boats carry visitors on fun bird watching expeditions and various related events are held in the nearby auditorium.
